New Vision of Retire Without Borders

So, as I mentioned in my last article, I’m reframing this website to be a companion to my YouTube channel, Retire Without Borders.  If you recall, I started RWB to document how Americans like me could potentially live a better life for less by moving to another country. I also started several other channels on YouTube. One on Artificial Intelligence, one on issues for Generation Z, one on cute dogs and cats, and one on how-to do things.  I honestly struggled to find my voice and pay attention to so many channels.

AI is a topic I understood well, and one that genuinely interests me. Technology is powerful. It changes industries. It reshapes opportunity. And for a while, it felt like the right direction for the site. But over time, something became clear. My real impact wasn’t happening in tech. I had started two tech-focused YouTube channels – Your AI Connection and Your AI Side Hustles. I liked the videos and thought them informative but apparently, no one else did. After 21 videos, I only had 13 subscribers. My goal is to provide a service and to earn a part-time income from YouTube. As such, I would need at least 1,000 subscribers. I was obviously not making videos that resonated with people.

I realized I should be looking at another direction. Honestly, I feel that one person, no longer working in the tech industry, can become overwhelmed by the incredible amount of changes happening daily. I really wanted to keep up with Artificial Intelligence, but I was just unable to do so and maintain quality. The video channel proves this point.

I read many articles and watched several videos about succeeding on YouTube. The advice out there states that to continue with something you need to be passionate about that something. One subject I felt passion towards is retiring overseas. So, I pivoted. I gave up on the artificial intelligence channel and began researching retire overseas videos.

Though I don’t currently plan to move overseas myself, I’ve always been interested in the idea of living abroad as an American. I’ve met many people in my travels who successfully are living in various countries.  I love travel and experiencing other cultures. This interest comes from my first experience when I was in high school, having participated in an exchange program with a high school in Stuttgart, West Germany.

Yep, that’s 18-year-old me posing for a way-too-cool photo in Austria, while travelling around Europe during a break in study back in 1989.

To take action on my passion, I started the YouTube channel, Retire Without Borders. The mission statement of the channel is to empower current and future retirees with real data, honest insights, and inspiring stories about the best places to live, invest, and thrive overseas — without sacrificing comfort, safety, or community.

I hate how my voice sounds. So, to remedy this, I found and relied on various AI tools. These tools like Pictory.ai, VidIQ, ChatGPT, and Google Gemeni allowed me to write scripts, create faceless videos, and voice them for me. I even was able to create thumbnails using AI versions of my face. I’ll get back to that later. I am working now on a new video, where I actually use my voice.

Here’s the first video i made on the channel. I already look at this video and cringe. Even the thumbnail is admittedly tacky:

Indeed, that video was pretty bad. However, it was a start.

I’ve since de-listed it because it doesn’t match anything about my current videos. As I state on the channel, I believe retirement isn’t the end of your journey — it’s your chance to start living without borders. So, I continued making videos. I now have over 70 long-form videos and 150 short form videos. I also currently have over 700 subscribers as of the time of this article.

So, while I was struggling to keep KaiPonte.com focused on publishing tech-focused content, my YouTube channel, @RetireWithoutBorders, was growing around a very different theme: helping Americans explore life outside the United States in retirement. The response to the channel was strong and I honestly feel like I am making something of a difference. People aren’t casually browsing. They are researching. Planning. Calculating. Reconsidering their assumptions. Even more important to a YouTube channel, they are subscribing and staying connected.

In reviewing my audience’s behavior, I noticed they aren’t looking to figure out the next vacation. They are looking for clarity about the next 30 years of their lives.

That’s a very different responsibility. So, here we are.  Why Retiring Overseas Deserves Its Own Platform. I want to make sure you have a resource for learning about a possible move overseas. This includes the benefits, risks, and where you can find more information.

There are plenty of travel blogs online.

There are also plenty of general retirement blogs.

But there are far fewer resources that focus specifically on helping Americans retire overseas in a strategic, practical, and realistic way. I want kaiponte.com to be that resource focusing specifically on helping you retire overseas in a strategic, practical and realistic way.

Retiring abroad isn’t about chasing beaches. It’s about sustainability. It’s about understanding:

                  •               Cost of living differences

                  •               Healthcare systems abroad

                  •               Visa requirements

                  •               Residency rules

                  •               Tax implications

                  •               Long-term financial durability

It’s about building a retirement framework that works — not just for the first year, but for decades. That’s what I’ve been exploring deeply on @RetireWithoutBorders. And it no longer makes sense for KaiPonte.com to be disconnected from that mission.

Aligning the Website With the YouTube Channel

The shift at KaiPonte.com is simple:

I plan to provide you with the best resources for moving overseas – either part-time or full-time. I plan to educate you on the advantages and pitfalls of living an expat life in various countries.

Why This Shift Feels Inevitable

If I’m being honest, this move feels less like a pivot and more like alignment.

The mission has been clear for a while: help Americans retire overseas intelligently.

KaiPonte.com simply wasn’t reflecting that mission yet.

Now it will.

Instead of dividing focus between two different identities — tech strategist on one platform, retirement strategist on another — everything will point in the same direction.

Clarity compounds.

So does brand alignment.

And if I want to build authority in the retirement overseas space, the ecosystem needs to be unified.

Why Retiring Overseas Is Becoming a Bigger Conversation

Part of this shift is also driven by what’s happening economically.

The cost of living in the United States continues to rise.

Housing prices remain high.

Healthcare costs are unpredictable.

Insurance premiums climb.

Property taxes increase.

Inflation reshapes retirement math.

At the same time, many countries abroad still offer:

                  •               Lower healthcare costs

                  •               Lower housing costs

                  •               Walkable cities

                  •               Strong expat communities

                  •               A slower pace of life

For some Americans, retiring overseas is no longer a fantasy.

It’s a strategy.

Not an escape — a recalibration.

And that conversation deserves more depth than quick headlines or surface-level articles.

It deserves thoughtful analysis.

That’s what this website will now focus on.

What You Can Expect Going Forward

KaiPonte.com will now serve as a written companion to @RetireWithoutBorders.

Expect articles that:

                  •               Break down the true monthly costs of living abroad

                  •               Compare healthcare systems country by country

                  •               Explain retirement visas clearly and simply

                  •               Explore the pros and cons honestly

                  •               Address risks alongside opportunities

                  •               Offer long-term thinking instead of short-term hype

No exaggerated promises.

No “retire tomorrow for $1,000 a month” clickbait.

Just grounded, realistic discussion.

Because retiring overseas can absolutely work.

But only if it’s approached intelligently.

The Bigger Vision

This shift is about building something cohesive.

A platform where:

                  •               YouTube introduces ideas

                  •               The website deepens them

                  •               Future resources simplify implementation

Over time, that could include checklists, structured guides, and planning tools.

But first, it starts with clarity.

Clarity of message.

Clarity of mission.

Clarity of audience.

KaiPonte.com now has that clarity.

Closing Thoughts

If you’ve followed this website for technology insights in the past, I appreciate you.

Truly.

But the future direction is clear.

KaiPonte.com is now dedicated to helping Americans think strategically about retiring overseas.

Because the question isn’t just:

“Where is it cheaper?”

The question is:

“Where can I build a sustainable, fulfilling next chapter of life?”

That’s a more meaningful conversation.

And it’s one worth building this platform around.

If you’re exploring retirement abroad — whether you’re five years away or fifteen — I hope this site becomes a place you return to.

Because this shift isn’t about abandoning the past.

It’s about committing fully to the future.

And for many Americans, that future may not be within U.S. borders at all.
